Renowned BBC personality, Victoria Coren Mitchell, has joyfully welcomed her second child with her comedian spouse, David Mitchell. The couple proudly revealed their newborn’s charming name.

The 51-year-old host of ‘Only Connect’ took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the delightful news.

On Wednesday, Victoria wrote: “Many have assumed that my yesterday’s tweet was a Halloween costume. Not at all; just last week, I welcomed a baby and currently, only cloaks fit me. Fortunately, ‘Only Connect’ is pre-recorded. Wishing you all a Happy All Saints Day.”

The couple have chosen to name their daughter June Violet.

This heartwarming announcement was also confirmed in The Times, with a birth notice that read: “MITCHELL, on the 26th of October 2023, to Victoria and David, a daughter, June Violet, sister to Barbara.

David Mitchell and Victoria Coren Mitchell have named their second daughter June Violet

June is a name of Latin origin that is considered gender-neutral, meaning ‘young’, as stated by The Bump.

The name is derived from the summer month of June, which itself is rooted in Juno, a formidable Roman goddess revered as the guardian of marriage and childbirth.

The television couple appear to have a fondness for this name, possibly due to its sentimental significance, given that they named their eldest daughter Barbara Elizabeth June Mitchell.

David and Victoria are also parents to seven year old Barbara

Meanwhile, their newborn’s middle name, Violet, is derived from the Latin word ‘viola’, meaning ‘purple’.

Primarily used for girls, Violet is a cherished name within the literary and media community. It graces the pages of famous tales like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’, and Disney’s ‘The Incredibles’.

Victoria and David, both 49, initially crossed paths in 2007 at a film premiere, where they were introduced by fellow comedian David Baddiel.

Victoria once recounted: “He specifically said to me, ‘There’s David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I’ll get the ball rolling by introducing you.'”

David, in his 2012 autobiography ‘Back Story’, shared: “I was pretty sure she was flirting, but was unwilling to believe my instincts as that seemed too good to be true.”

Despite this initial hesitation, Victoria and David quickly formed a strong connection. Their first official date, however, did not occur until 2010, as Victoria’s father had recently passed away.

In an interview with The Guardian, David confessed: “The problem is, I hate the whole dating thing. I just find it incredibly awkward… I don’t dislike being single enough to put myself through the pain.”

Yet, he was merely waiting for the right moment to try and win Victoria over once more.

“I waited three years. Isn’t that peculiar? Aren’t I unusual? I can’t explain it other than to say I couldn’t do anything else,” he wrote.

In 2015, David and Victoria welcomed their seven-year-old daughter, Barbara, and they currently reside together in Kilburn, in north west London.
