UK Child, 6, Fatally Drowns in Hotel Pool While on Family Holiday in Paphos

A young lad from the UK tragically lost his life in a hotel swimming pool while on a family vacation in Paphos, Cyprus.

The six-year-old met a tragic end after his mother discovered him unconscious in the pool.

Following a swift rescue by a vigilant lifeguard, an ambulance promptly transported him to Paphos Hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator.

Medical professionals made valiant efforts to stabilise his deteriorating condition.

Despite continuous unconsciousness, he was transferred to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia for further treatment, but regrettably, he succumbed.

Local authorities report that the boy was on holiday with his mother and younger sibling when the incident occurred on October 6th.

Safety tips for parents with children near swimming pools

  • Never leave children unsupervised near swimming pools.
  • Make sure children know how to swim and are aware of the dangers of swimming pools.
  • Teach children how to enter and exit the pool safely.
  • Supervise children closely at all times when they are in the pool.
  • Encourage children to take breaks from swimming and to drink plenty of water.
  • Be aware of the signs of drowning, such as splashing, waving, or making strange noises.
