The American actor Tyler Christopher, known for his role in the soap opera General Hospital and as the former spouse of Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, has passed away at the age of 50.
Maurice Benard, his co-star on General Hospital, confirmed Christopher’s demise on Instagram, stating: “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher.”
Benard mentioned that Christopher suffered a cardiac event at his apartment in San Diego, which led to his passing.
Tyler Christopher Baker, as he was named in full, dedicated two decades to General Hospital, portraying Nikolas Cassadine intermittently from 1996 to 2016. In his final year on the show, he received a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
He also spent a year on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, earning another award nomination.
Born in Illinois, Christopher was married to Longoria from 2002 to 2004. He had two children with his second wife, ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo. The couple tied the knot in 2008 but separated in 2019.
Benard paid tribute to Christopher, describing him as an immensely gifted individual who illuminated every scene with his performances, and who took great pleasure in bringing joy to his devoted fans through his acting. Benard also commended Christopher’s efforts in addressing his mental health and addiction struggles.

Tyler was a staunch supporter of improved mental health and substance use treatment, openly discussing his battles with bipolar disorder, depression, and alcohol.
He fondly described Christopher as “a kind-hearted spirit and a splendid companion,” further expressing, “We are utterly heartbroken by the passing of our cherished friend and offer our prayers for his children and father.”
Frank Valentini, executive producer of General Hospital, praised Christopher as “an extraordinary actor and a close confidant.”
