Two individuals have sustained injuries while attempting to intervene in a dog altercation in Hereford.

At around 5:15 pm on Sunday, police were summoned to a residence in Campbell Close, where they discovered a man and a woman injured in the incident.

The man, in his twenties, incurred a hand injury while trying to separate the dogs. The woman, also in her twenties, was knocked to the ground, resulting in facial injuries. Both were promptly transported to the hospital.

West Mercia Police have confirmed that the dog responsible for the man’s injury has been apprehended and is currently secured at a kennel.

The breed of the dog has not been disclosed by the police at this time.

In an official statement, the force explained, “During an altercation between two dogs from the same household, a man in his 20s suffered a hand injury attempting to separate the dogs and a woman, also in her 20s, suffered facial injuries after being knocked to the ground. Both people have been taken to the hospital. The dog which caused the injury to the man has been recovered from the property and is currently secured at kennels.”

This incident is part of a recent surge in dog attacks, with many being associated with the American XL bully dog breed.

One such incident involved a five-year-old boy who required hospital treatment after being attacked by three dogs in Doncaster earlier this month. The boy sustained puncture wounds in the attack on Balfour Road, Doncaster, on 7 October, according to South Yorkshire Police.

Furthermore, an XL bully dog was discharged in a school car park after it fled there following an attack on its owner, a woman in her sixties, last Monday in Norfolk.
