Devoted fans of The Chase were left deeply saddened as Paul Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to a contestant who had recently passed away.

A repeat episode of the beloved gameshow returned to our screens on Tuesday (October 31), with Bradley Walsh leading the charge as the host. However, it proved to be anything but a routine battle against the formidable Chasers.

As the game kicked off, Chaser Paul, also known as ‘The Sinnerman’, put in his best efforts to challenge the contestants. Yet, viewers were understandably preoccupied with the memory of one participant – the revered ‘legend’, Pete – who had regrettably passed away since the recording.

Turning to the realm of X, formerly known as Twitter, devoted fans came together to share their fond farewells to the 72-year-old, who tragically lost his life in a house fire on June 27, 2021.

One user on social media expressed, ‘I recall Pete; he passed away, didn’t he? RIP’, accompanied by a sombre emoji. Another wrote, ‘Dear Pete, may God bless him. May he rest in eternal peace.’

A third emotionally touched viewer remarked, “I can’t bring myself to watch this without feeling a touch of sadness.” Meanwhile, a fourth contributor expressed, “Rest in peace, Pete; he appeared to be a delightful gentleman.”

In addition to the viewers’ comments, chaser Paul also conveyed his condolences online, writing, “I’m deeply saddened to hear about Pete from today’s episode of The Chase, who has tragically passed away. He was a genuine gentleman, always warm, engaging, and a thoroughly entertaining adversary.”

In response to the post, one viewer provided a deeper insight into the contestant’s life. They expressed, “Pete served as the Town Crier and resided just about 500 meters from my house. His passing came as a great shock to the local community. He received a fitting send-off with a horse-drawn procession through the town centre, with his family and friends from the Steam Punk community in tow.”

The TV personality then responded, “That’s truly heartwarming to hear, Audrey. X.” Another viewer, who lived in Pete’s hometown of Wymondham, added, “This gentleman was a familiar figure in our local town and unfortunately met his end in a house fire a few months back.”

Pete’s family paid a poignant tribute to him online, stating, “You touched the lives of so many and leave us all with the most cherished memories, which will sustain us through the challenging times ahead.

“You were a beloved figure across Wymondham, the re-enactment scene, and the steampunk communities, among others. Father of four, grandfather to eight, and companion to Kiki the Jack Russell. You will be greatly missed.”

Despite making it to the final round, his team was narrowly defeated by the chaser in the final moments.
