Duchess Sophie recently brought joy and excitement to a young royal admirer, Hugo Sehgal, during a heartwarming visit to the British Embassy in Berne.

Hugo, a 9-year-old boy battling Sanfilippo syndrome, a neurodegenerative disease that significantly shortens life expectancy, had always harboured the dream of meeting a member of the Royal Family.

His wish was granted when Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, made an unexpected appearance to meet him.

The British Embassy shared poignant photos of this special encounter on the platform X, captioning them: “An honour to facilitate a meeting between HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh and Hugo Sehgal … Hugo’s dream was to meet a member of the Royal Family.”

In the photographs, Sophie was seen gracefully attired in a timeless black jersey combined with a chic cream skirt, exuding a welcoming presence as she engaged with a delighted Hugo.

This significant visit followed shortly after the Duchess’s involvement with the Disability Initiative, where she holds the role of Patron.

The organisation is committed to offering support and rehabilitation to grown-ups facing physical disabilities and those who’ve suffered brain injuries.

Sophie’s appearance during her visit stood out with her effortlessly stylish and refined clothing. She was spotted wearing a cosy cream turtleneck jumper paired with flattering wide-leg jeans.

Sophie elevated her winter outfit with elegant chocolate-coloured heeled boots, refined gold accessories, and a fashionable black hair bow embellishing her golden blonde ponytail.

During her visit, Sophie’s exuberant demeanour and spontaneous dancing resonated with royal enthusiasts, who flocked to X to express their admiration.

The platform buzzed with comments like “Let’s not overlook her Coronation Concert moves – the girl can dance!” and “Sophie singing and dancing is simply adorable!”—all celebrating her infectious energy.

In a marked departure from the norm, the Duchess opted for a striking berry-red manicure, a bold contrast to the usual preference for bare or neutral nails within the royal family.

An example of this contrast is evident in the late Queen Elizabeth II’s consistent choice of the subtle ‘Ballet Slippers’ pink varnish by Essie throughout her reign.

Sophie’s adventurous choice in her manicure echoed a similar style moment witnessed earlier in the year with Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales.

During April, Kate made waves by revealing a vibrant scarlet nail colour, a rare break from the customary royal nail protocol. Renowned for her strict adherence to royal conventions, Kate’s cherry-red nails, exhibited at the Easter Matins Service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, hinted at a nuanced yet notable shift in royal fashion standards.
