A British man sustained injuries in a suspected terror incident in Paris that tragically resulted in the death of a tourist

A British citizen was among those harmed in an apparent terror incident in Paris, resulting in the tragic death of a German tourist, as confirmed by the Foreign Office.

Reports from AP indicate that a 25-year-old individual assaulted a German couple on Saturday evening using a knife, resulting in the death of the man. Furthermore, the assailant injured two others using a hammer.

Following the attack, the individual was apprehended by police after being subdued with a taser. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin mentioned that during custody, the attacker expressed distress over the deaths of Muslims in places like Afghanistan and the Palestinian territories, alleging France’s complicity.

Additionally, Mr Darmanin stated that the assailant exclaimed “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) during the incident. He further noted that if not for the swift intervention by the police, the assailant would likely have caused more casualties.

The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office informed the PA news agency, stating: “We are providing assistance to a British individual injured in Paris and are in contact with local authorities.”

The attacker, whose identity remains undisclosed, had been released from prison in 2020 after serving a four-year term and was under surveillance while receiving psychiatric treatment, according to Mr Darmanin.

The assailant was residing with his parents in the Essonne region, located south of Paris.

The fatal attack took place in the 15th district of Paris, where the perpetrator used a knife to fatally wound the German tourist, who has not been named. Subsequently, the assailant moved across the Seine river to the Right Bank and assaulted two others using a hammer.

The attacker was intercepted by law enforcement officers, who used a taser twice to subdue him.
