Sue Perkins and Anna Richardson reconcile after their breakup
Sue Perkins and Anna Richardson, partners for approximately seven years, declared the conclusion of their romantic relationship in 2021 while maintaining a friendship.
The two ex-partners settled in for a sincere conversation about their ability to maintain a lasting friendship.
“Sue, we shared so many years together, yet we’ve managed to evolve into very close friends,” began 53-year-old Anna on her podcast, It Can’t Just Be Me.
Upon hearing this, 54-year-old comedian and former Great British Bake Off presenter Sue broke into a warm smile, responding to Anna’s invitation to elaborate on their journey.
“How did we manage it, though? How did we reach this point? Because we didn’t speak -” Anna started.
Sue interjected with “for a long time,” demonstrating their ability to finish each other’s sentences even now.
Staying intertwined in each other’s lives meant they had to utilize the time apart for releasing certain attachments.
“One has to intentionally dismantle elements of the familiar to cultivate new aspects and alternative ways of existence, all rooted in friendship,” she expressed.
She elaborated further, stating, “Moreover, there’s a necessity to grant forgiveness to the past. Avoid dwelling on historical accounts. Once you create that space, the rehashing of past incidents ceases.”
Sue provided us with a clarification, stating that by ‘history lessons,’ she meant refraining from bringing up past conflicts every time they face a disagreement. Instead, they should remain focused on current issues.
“Our break, split, and the time apart have led to the absence of history lessons between us. We can forgive and say ‘It’s all okay,'” she concluded.
Anna, the presenter of Naked Attraction, firmly supported Sue’s analysis during their heartfelt conversation. The two co-parent the adopted Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Piggy Tiggy.
In their sincere discussion, Anna and Sue also delved into Anna’s past relationship with Charles Martin that spanned around 20 years. They described how developing feelings for Sue required a recalibration.
“When I met you, I had to recalibrate – ‘Hang on a second, I’ve met someone, and hang on a second, I’m falling in love with. This is new and a challenge,'” she recalled.
Sue couldn’t resist cracking a joke: “That’s the line everyone uses.”
Following that, Anna showered compliments on her ex-partner for his handling of the situation.
“It’s not just a challenge for me; it’s evidently a challenge for him as well. I must give him significant credit because he was genuinely considerate to both of us. It poses a challenge for our families and friends, a complete recalibration,” she shared with the audience.
