Star of Orange Is the New Black, aged 42, welcomes the arrival of their first child

Actress Uzo Aduba, 42, hinted at her pregnancy back in June during her appearance at the 2023 Tony Awards, gently holding her blossoming bump. Subsequently, confirming the joyous news, she took to social media, sharing a video proudly displaying a set of baby pyjamas, exclaiming ‘ta-da’.

Uzo recently took to social media again, this time sharing a sequence of snapshots announcing the arrival of her daughter, Adaiba Lee Nonyem. Captioning the post with heartfelt words, she expressed, ‘My daughter. I’ve never experienced such swift and profound love in my entire life.’ The post featured a tender image of her cradling the newborn alongside another picture of her daughter resting on her chest.

‘I’m at a loss for words, truly. My heart is overflowing. Thank you, God,’ she added.

“I’m brimming with joy, having witnessed something truly miraculous. It’s a blessing to have you as part of our lives,” she expressed.

She further conveyed, “Adaiba Lee Nonyem, you’re cherished by us – the custodians of the legacy of the mothers who preceded you.”

Uzo enthusiastically gushed about embracing motherhood, expressing her excitement about becoming a ‘mum’ and eagerly anticipating the experiences it brings.

“I’ve heard it’s a demanding journey, but the rewards make every moment worthwhile 🙂 #thankful,” she concluded.

Her social media post was inundated with warm wishes, as several notable personalities extended their congratulations.

Gigi Hadid conveyed her regards with a heartfelt message, ‘Congratulations, mama,’ whereas Octavia Spencer remarked that Uzo was radiating happiness.

Naomi Campbell shared her felicitations, stating, ‘Congratulations @uzoaduba on the arrival of your beautiful bundle of joy.’

Following Reese Witherspoon’s heartfelt message ‘Oh my heart!! so happy for you mama!’, Uzo responded gratefully, saying, ‘Thanks, lady!! Just so grateful!!’

When initially revealing her pregnancy, Uzo conveyed that as her family expands, her and husband Robert Sweeting’s singular focus would be on nurturing their child with profound affection.

In September, the actress commemorated her ‘Bey-bee’s first concert, sharing snapshots cradling her baby bump before attending Beyoncé’s concert in Los Angeles.

Reflecting on the experience, she expressed, ‘It was an extraordinary moment to attend the Beyonce concert with our Little One and my friend, @idaravictor. What an outstanding performance.’

Uzo gained prominence for her portrayal of Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren in the series ‘Orange Is the New Black’ from 2013 to 2019. Her remarkable performance earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014, an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2015, and two SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series in 2014 and 2015.

Since the conclusion of the series, she has starred in the mini-series ‘Mrs. America’, the film ‘Lightyear’, and is set to lead the upcoming Shondaland Netflix drama ‘The Residence’.
