Sir David Jason is set to make a return to television screens this Christmas with a surprise festive special of Only Fools and Horses. Despite the show concluding two decades ago, it remains an integral part of TV Christmas line-ups. Fans can now celebrate as Sir David brings back the crew for a TV comeback.

Prepare some cheese and pineapple snacks and settle in for a delightful dose of television nostalgia. Sir David will host a new documentary centred around the beloved sitcom. In this programme, he’ll unveil his pick for the ultimate festive episode, considering it the pinnacle of the show’s excellence. This special Christmas edition marks Sir David’s first major TV appearance following his recent hip replacement surgery earlier this year.

The programme will reunite Sir David with a lineup of regulars from the Nags Head pub. Among them is Tessa Peake-Jones, who portrayed Raquel, Sir David’s on-screen partner. Together, they’ll pay tribute to the series, honouring its phenomenal comedy writing and the exceptional actors who contributed to its enduring success.

According to a source from a TV channel who spoke to The Sun: “Christmas just wouldn’t feel right without the Trotters, so this special is a fantastic treat for fans of Only Fools. The producers were thrilled when David was given the green light to appear after his surgery, making the special a delightful watch for the audience.”

In an upcoming documentary scheduled for Channel 5, Sir David will reminisce about the memorable moments from the much-loved sitcom, which premiered back in 1981. He’ll also share some behind-the-scenes secrets with the viewers.

He will be accompanied in the special by a few notable celebrity fans, including Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis and Strictly Come Dancing contestant and newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy. Despite going off the air in 2003, Only Fools And Horses, which began 40 years ago, remains an integral part of Christmas TV culture owing to its remarkable audience numbers.

Regrettably, Sir David had to postpone the recent gathering due to his hip surgery earlier this year. However, having made a full recovery, he is anticipated to grace the rescheduled event in the early part of next year.

In a recent commendation of his new “bionic hip,” David expressed, “I’m doing well. I’m facing a bit of difficulty in regaining muscle strength as I was quite immobile for two to three weeks. I hadn’t been using my legs at all. Presently, I’m focused on recuperating and doing exercises to regain strength, but the hip itself has been splendid.”
