Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson has opened up about his deep disappointment over his teenage son’s lack of recognition for his prowess in sports. The 49-year-old, known for his role as Steve McDonald on the ITV soap, expressed his sadness as his 16-year-old son Alfie struggles to receive acknowledgment for his football skills. Taking to Instagram, Simon shared a poignant nighttime picture of Alfie perched on a football while engrossed in his phone.

In his heartfelt post, Simon revealed, “My boy has dreamt of a football career since the age of 4. He plays relentlessly for three teams, training day and night, yet he remains unseen. It breaks my heart every single day.” (sic)

The actor received an outpouring of support from fans, with one commenting, “I completely understand. My son, 17, is exceptionally talented, playing for two teams, dedicated to training, maintaining fitness levels—getting scouted is such a tough task nowadays. Best wishes to your lad.”

A fourth individual chimed in, “His abilities and talents will eventually be acknowledged, without a doubt. Until then, I sincerely hope he’s relishing every moment of the journey because that’s the crucial part.”

Simon is a father to Henry, aged 13, and Teddy, aged six. His three sons are shared with his former wife, Emma Gleave, known for her role in Hollyoaks.
