Ryan Gosling is poised to captivate audiences at this year’s most glittering night on the showbiz calendar.

As Hollywood plays host to the 96th Academy Awards this evening, the 43-year-old star of Barbie is reportedly in high spirits as he prepares to perform “I’m Just Ken”. The song, a standout hit from last year’s award-winning Barbie film, is set to be brought to life on stage by the acclaimed actor.

Observers say he looked absolutely splendid during the final rehearsals on Friday at the Dolby Theatre, the prestigious venue for the Oscars.

A source confided in PEOPLE that Ryan was striking a perfect balance on set, portraying the utmost professionalism while keeping the atmosphere light with his sense of humour. He appeared relaxed, thoroughly enjoying himself, which evidently boosted the spirits of everyone involved in the production. They were all having a delightful time, though specifics about the performance were kept under wraps, save for the mention of “many dancers” taking part. This special performance by Ryan, who dazzled audiences as Ken in last year’s Barbie spectacle, is highly anticipated.

Ryan is tipped to clinch the Best Supporting Actor accolade at this year’s Oscars for his memorable role alongside Margot Robbie. His nomination contributes to the film’s impressive tally of 12 nods at the Academy Awards, recognising the efforts of its cast and crew.

However, the Oscars nominations announcement left many fans disgruntled, notably due to the absence of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in key categories. Both Margot and Greta were conspicuously missing from the list, with Margot overlooked for the Best Actress category and Greta not in the running for Best Director, despite the film’s phenomenal success at the box office the previous year.

Despite the omission, Margot recently shared her perspective, expressing that she feels too fortunate to dwell on the oversight. Speaking at a Sag-Aftra panel, she underscored her belief in Greta’s deservingness of a directorial nomination, describing her achievements with Barbie as a career-defining, once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment. Margot highlighted the film’s cultural impact, stating that achieving such an effect was their greatest reward, far outweighing any recognition from the Oscars. Nevertheless, she remains “beyond ecstatic” over the film’s unprecedented success.
