Ruth Langsford, presenter of Loose Women, has shared her feelings about her upcoming Christmas, which she anticipates will be tinged with both joy and sorrow. For yet another year, Ruth will mark the festive season without her cherished sister Julia Johnson and her father, Dennis.

Julia, who struggled with depression for an extended period, tragically passed away at the age of 62 in 2019, discovered by her husband Paul at their home. Ruth has previously spoken about the profound impact of losing her sister, describing it as the most challenging experience of her life.

Acknowledging that the holiday period often evokes poignant emotions, Ruth confided in Best Magazine that despite this, Christmas brings her immense joy.

Reflecting on her childhood, Ruth fondly reminisced about Christmases spent in various countries, including Malta and Germany, owing to her father Dennis’s service in the army.

Her father sadly passed away in 2012 due to dementia at the age of 84. Ruth recalled how, in her younger years, she used to accompany her father while buying gifts for her mother. She expresses a poignant longing for her father, especially during this time of the year.

She shared with the publication: ‘He would pick the tree, wrap the presents – he was deeply involved. That’s why, during Christmas, I especially feel the absence of my father.’

As Ruth gears up for the festive season, she recently disclosed her openness to a potential return to This Morning, following Holly Willoughby’s sudden departure in October.

Ruth expressed her willingness to consider a return, clarifying that the reports suggesting the show’s desire to have her back were inaccurate.

Speaking to Woman&Home, she stated, “I have a deep affection for This Morning, but the claims about ITV reaching out to me recently are simply untrue. I found it rather amusing when I stumbled upon that report. It’s akin to encountering a spiteful comment on my Instagram.”

She elaborated, saying, “Should they extend an invitation, I would certainly ponder over it. I previously co-hosted alongside Rylan for a week, and my decision then wasn’t influenced by Eamonn’s circumstances. Eamonn has parted ways with ITV, that chapter’s closed. He’s happily engaged in another role.”

Adding further, Ruth remarked, “Moreover, I don’t require Eamonn’s consent for my choices, nor does he need mine. If ITV proposed, ‘Would you join us for a week on This Morning?’ and if my schedule permitted, teaming up with the right person, I’d most likely accept.”
