Ayda Field, the wife of singer Robbie Williams, recently shared a surprising detail about their family travel arrangements. In an interview with The Times, she revealed that while she and Robbie enjoy first-class travel, their children opt for economy class.

“When we fly, my kids choose economy,” Ayda explained. “I head left, they head right.”

Expressing concern about potential perceptions, she remarked, “That might seem awful. People might think I’m being rather unpleasant.”

Ayda further elaborated on their rationale, stating, “It’s important for my kids to understand that economy is where they’ll sit until they can afford another part of the plane.” She emphasized that this decision reflects their desire not to raise spoiled children.

Robbie and Ayda Williams have a brood of four lovely children: Teddy, aged 11, Charlie, aged 9, Coco, aged 5, and Beau, aged 3.

The pair didn’t explicitly state whether their children were accompanied by an adult while they sat separately on the plane. However, Williams had previously mentioned hiring someone to assist with childcare.

Back in 2012, after the birth of his first daughter, Williams reportedly shared with The Sunday Times Style Magazine, “Am I getting help? F*** yeah. I’m getting hot and cold running help.”

He further expressed his desire for a harmonious household, stating, “The number of couples who have kids and argue as they haven’t slept – I want the house to be happy, because we’ll be happy and the baby will be happy and we can do it again. I really want to dig this.”

Williams and Field aren’t the first celebrities to mention their kids flying economy without parental company.

In a 2017 interview with the Financial Times, Chef Gordon Ramsay expressed his disdain for spending exorbitant amounts on first-class tickets for children, deeming anyone who does so a “muppet.” “For four first-class tickets to LA, 60 f****** grand. For Tana and I, 90 f****** grand…F****** right I won’t pay for them. What muppet is going to spend £90,000 flying from here to LA?,” he reportedly asserted.

Similarly, in 2018, TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp echoed Ramsay’s sentiments. Speaking to The Sun, she revealed, “When we fly as a family, the boys do fly separately from Ben and me if we’re not in economy together. Club Class should be a huge treat you’ve worked hard for. If kids get used to it, what do they have to work towards? It seems like an absurd waste of money and very spoiling. I suspect Gordon Ramsay and I can’t be the only ones to think this.”

These high-profile figures share a common stance against splurging on premium class tickets for children, emphasising the importance of such luxuries being earned through hard work rather than bestowed upon them.
