Ayda Field, the wife of Robbie Williams, has candidly shared the emotional phone call that marked the end of their relationship, expressing that she felt her ‘soulmate’ had departed.

In a new four-part Netflix series set to premiere on the streaming platform tomorrow, 8th November, the couple has granted access to cameras into their private lives. Titled “Robbie Williams,” the documentary boasts a treasure trove of ’30 years of unseen footage’, with Netflix assuring viewers of its ‘raw’, ‘honest’, and ‘authentic’ portrayal.

This documentary serves as a tribute to the 25th anniversary of Robbie’s immensely successful solo career, which skyrocketed after he gained fame as a member of the pop group Take That in the early 1990s.

Set to be unveiled on the 8th of November, the four-part series also takes a deep dive into the star’s personal life, shedding light on the ‘genuine human being behind the sensationalized headlines’.

This encompasses the challenging battle with addiction that 49-year-old Robbie faced, and the profound impact it had on those close to him, notably his 44-year-old wife Ayda.

Reflecting on the initial encounter with her partner’s drug use, Ayda remarked, “It was my introduction to addiction.”

She continued, “You wouldn’t discern a shift in his personality, but suddenly, he would be sick while watching TV.”

Robbie openly admitted that as his addiction spiralled out of control, he contemplated whether he’d be better off not alive.

“There was a feeling… It would be preferable if I were to pass away, I was indifferent and it would be fine,” he revealed candidly.

“For me to alter, I’d have to be on the brink of death, either dying or cease what you’re doing.”

Ayda recalled the early morning phone call from Robbie, informing her that his team had arranged for him to enter rehab. This revelation occurred shortly before his 33rd birthday, delivering a seismic shock.

She recalled, “It was around 2am when I called him. I told him, ‘I’m just getting on the highway’, and he responded, ‘Are you driving? Call me when you get home.’

“He then explained, ‘I can’t be in a relationship right now. I need to focus on getting better, and I can’t be with you. I have to end things between us.'”

Ayda expressed feeling deeply saddened, as he was her ‘soulmate’, and suddenly he was gone. She added, “But I understood it because I could see he was unwell. All I wanted was for him to get better.”

Despite the separation, they eventually reconciled and now have three children together.

Catch Robbie Williams on Netflix starting from 8th November.
