Proposals for a “timber post and rail fence” have been presented to North Yorkshire Council for their consideration.

The application outlines its intention to provide a “straightforward visual and unassuming physical barrier to deter intrusion” at the constituency residence near Northallerton.

This development comes in the wake of a rooftop protest staged by Greenpeace in August, aimed at contesting oil and gas extraction plans.

Submitted on October 11, the application urged for “a swift decision, given the uncomplicated nature of the proposals and the circumstances of the site.”

As reported by the Mail On Sunday, Downing Street confirmed that Mr. Sunak would personally cover the costs for the fence.

Protesters ascended to the roof of Mr. Sunak’s constituency residence in North Yorkshire.

Activists covered the residence in Kirby Sigston with oil-black fabric in opposition to the Government’s intention to issue over 100 new licences for oil and gas extraction in the North Sea.

Five individuals were apprehended by North Yorkshire Police during the demonstration, which occurred while the Richmond MP and his family were vacationing in California.

According to the planning application, the fence would stand at 4ft (1.2m) in height.

The document asserts: “It is deemed that the proposal poses no discernible harm in heritage or wider planning terms, and planning permission should be duly granted.”

After the Greenpeace protest, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson remarked that further engagement with the group was no longer considered “appropriate”.
