The 57-year-old singer, renowned for his 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up,” is set to present the upcoming music event on BBC One next month.

Expressing his delight about the announcement made on Saturday, Astley stated, “It’s a great honour. Watching the show and enjoying the spectacular fireworks has always been a part of my New Year’s tradition, so being involved this year is fantastic. Here’s to a wonderful night.”

Sam Ryder ushered in the New Year on the BBC’s New Year’s Eve broadcast last year (Danny Lawson/PA).

With the tentative title “Rick Astley Rocks New Year’s Eve,” the extravaganza is set to take place at the iconic Roundhouse in Camden, London.

Jonathan Rothery, the head of BBC pop music TV, expressed, “Our annual New Year’s Eve broadcasts on BBC One aim to bring the musical prowess of some of the industry’s biggest names directly into the homes of people across the UK.

“In recent years, we’ve been treated to remarkable performances from the likes of Sam Ryder in 2022, Olly Alexander, Kylie, and the Pet Shop Boys in 2021, as well as Alicia Keys in 2020. I am delighted to reveal that Rick Astley, who has enjoyed a stellar 2023 thus far, will be providing the soundtrack to this year’s festivities.

“It serves as a fantastic conclusion to another remarkable year of live musical showcases on the BBC.”

The lineup of guests set to join Astley on stage will be revealed in due course. This announcement follows the singer’s performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury earlier this year, during which he delivered captivating renditions of Harry Styles’ hit “As It Was” and AC/DC’s classic “Highway To Hell.”

Alison Howe, executive producer of entertainment and music at BBC Studios, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating: “After collaborating with Rick and his team at Glastonbury, we are delighted to join forces again. Who better to lead us into the new year from another iconic venue? The atmosphere is certain to be electric.”

Tickets for the event will be available for purchase starting at 9 am on Tuesday.
