Patrick Dempsey was crowned People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The American actor’s accolade was announced during Tuesday’s broadcast, where he playfully remarked on his newfound title, quipping: “Never give up on a dream.”

Seated with host Jimmy Kimmel, the 57-year-old commented, “I’m just delighted they made a choice, and it happened to be me this year. I’m very thankful.”

The star of “Bridget Jones’s Baby” mentioned that he had come “close a few times,” recalling being featured on the cover of People magazine in the years when George Clooney and Matt Damon were chosen as Sexiest Man Alive.

“I was completely taken aback, and then I burst out laughing, thinking, this must be a joke, right? I’ve always been the runner-up,” he shared with People magazine upon learning of his new title.

“I’m pleased it’s happening at this stage in my life. It’s nice to receive the acknowledgment, and while it may give my ego a little boost, it also provides me with a platform to use it for something positive.”

When asked if he saw the honour as a sign of his career reaching its zenith, Dempsey responded, telling the outlet, “I reached my peak many years ago, but I’m still going strong.”

Dempsey is slated to portray Italian racing driver Piero Taruffi in the upcoming Michael Mann-directed biopic, “Ferrari,” scheduled for release in December. The film also stars Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz.

He remarked, “I’d been tracking this movie for years, so I reached out to Michael and said, ‘I’d like to discuss being a part of this’… it taught me that if you truly desire something, you have to take the initiative yourself.”

Following his appearances in the successful Disney films “Enchanted” and its 2022 sequel “Disenchanted,” alongside Amy Adams, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel, Dempsey garnered widespread recognition.

Dempsey experienced early acclaim in the 1980s with notable roles in films such as “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Loverboy.” Additionally, he made memorable appearances on the sitcom “Will & Grace” and portrayed Detective Kincaid in “Scream 3.”

However, he is best known for his portrayal of Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” where he starred alongside Ellen Pompeo.

Throughout his career, Dempsey also took leading roles in beloved romantic comedies, including “Made Of Honor” with Michelle Monaghan and “Sweet Home Alabama” opposite Reese Witherspoon.
