In Nottingham, police have unveiled an image of an individual they wish to interview following an assault on an off-duty police officer by a group of four men outside a local bar. The Leicestershire sergeant was inside an establishment on King Street when he overheard a man making racially insensitive remarks towards another person, as reported by Nottinghamshire Police.

Upon the sergeant’s intervention to address the man’s behaviour, the individual attempted to strike him. The altercation then spilled outside the premises, where the officer was subjected to repeated punches by the group of men.

This incident transpired at approximately 8:10 pm on Saturday, October 7. Subsequently, police have released a CCTV image of a man they seek to speak to in connection with the ongoing investigation.

PC Koen Broers, of Nottinghamshire Police, remarked, “The off-duty officer was enjoying an evening out with friends and deserves credit for intervening when he overheard a man using racist language. What followed was an unprovoked and despicable act which could easily have left him seriously injured.”

“Fortunately, his injuries were not severe, but we are resolute in our pursuit of those responsible. We have scrutinised CCTV footage and have identified an individual we wish to speak to as part of the inquiry.”

“If you recognise the person depicted in the image, or if you are that individual, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can reach us at 101, citing incident number 23000624438. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
