The producers of James Bond have provided an update on the upcoming instalment, expressing their intention to “reinvent” the franchise.

In an interview with The Guardian, producer Barbara Broccoli elaborated on why it will take some time before we witness 007’s return after Daniel Craig’s departure in No Time To Die.

Broccoli remarked, “I believe these films are a reflection of their era, and there’s a substantial journey ahead in reimagining it for the next phase, and we’ve not even embarked on that yet.”

She went on to detail how, with Craig, they aimed to “centre on what a 21st-century hero would embody”, emphasising that modernisation is imperative when a new actor assumes the iconic role.

“I harken back to GoldenEye when everyone was proclaiming ‘the Cold War is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, no need for Bond, the whole world’s at peace and now there’s no villains’ – and boy was that wrong!” remarked Broccoli.

Broccoli is presently championing the Amazon reality series ‘007 Road To A Million’, where nine pairs of contestants vie in various Bond-themed challenges for a chance to win £1 million. The show is slated for release on November 10.

Earlier this month, there were reports of Christopher Nolan being in discussions to direct the next “two or three” films in the Bond franchise. However, it appears he desires some creative influence over the franchise’s trajectory.

According to sources at World Of Reel, Nolan aims to create faithful adaptations of the original Ian Fleming novels set in “period settings”, while EON Productions purportedly leans towards a “full reboot for the modern era”.

An official announcement regarding the director for the upcoming James Bond installment, or Daniel Craig’s successor, is still pending.

Among those speculated to potentially take up the role after Craig are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page, and Damson Idris.
