Matthew Perry’s passing is currently under investigation by the Robbery Homicide Division of the LAPD.

The actor, known for his role in ‘Friends’, tragically passed away at the age of 54 in a suspected drowning incident on Saturday (28.10.23). This occurred in the hot tub at his $6 million residence in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. Despite initial reports suggesting no signs of foul play, the LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division has taken charge of the inquiry into his sudden demise.

TMZ reported on Tuesday (31.10.23): “While foul play is not suspected at this stage, the police maintain that it’s standard procedure for the Robbery Homicide Division to handle high-profile cases.”

They further explained that the LAPD informed them, “The Robbery Homicide Division is ensuring that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Matthew’s death. It’s customary for RHD to lead high-profile cases due to their expertise and resources.”

Following an initial examination, the Los Angeles County coroner has postponed providing a cause of death for the actor, which may require several weeks to ascertain.

Reportedly, Matthew experienced a cardiac arrest and was discovered unresponsive in his jacuzzi by his assistant at 4 pm on Saturday.

His assistant placed a frantic call to 911, and the 15-second dispatch audio clip, obtained by TMZ, referred to a drowning incident.

While no illegal substances were found at his residence, it is reported that his home contained a substantial assortment of prescription medications, including anti-depressants, anxiety medication, and heart medication.

TMZ noted: “Our sources in law enforcement stated that authorities discovered anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medication, and a COPD drug in the house.”

COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and drugs used to manage it are commonly prescribed for individuals with emphysema or chronic bronchitis.

In 2018, at the age of 49, Matthew experienced a gastrointestinal perforation due to his extensive opiate use. He faced a mere two percent chance of survival after being in a coma for two weeks, and the actor had to use a colostomy bag while his colon recuperated.
