Matthew Perry’s death certificate discloses ‘pending’ cause of demise
Matthew Perry, the actor known for his role in Friends, sadly passed away a few weeks ago at his home in Los Angeles. While he has been laid to rest, his death certificate indicates that further investigations are required.
New details about the passing of actor Matthew Perry revealed in his official death certificate.
The Friends star was discovered in his hot tub a few weeks ago by his assistant, who promptly called for paramedics in an attempt to rescue him from the water. He was formally declared deceased at the scene.
On Friday, he was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, a renowned cemetery where several celebrities, including Paul Walker and Carrie Fisher, find their final resting place. Among those in attendance at his funeral were his former co-stars from Friends.
The Blast has obtained the death certificate of the star, which indicates that the cause of death has been deferred due to pending processing of Matthew’s toxicology report. Initial findings suggested the absence of meth or fentanyl in his system at the time of his passing, but further comprehensive testing is required for other substances. This analysis may take several weeks. However, those closest to the actor affirm that he was leading a clean and sober lifestyle before his demise.
The certificate also discloses that Dateline’s Keith Morrison, Matthew’s stepfather, is listed as the “informant” who provided details to the coroner. Additionally, Matthew’s profession is stated as “actor” within the entertainment industry.
Upon investigators’ arrival at Matthew’s residence, no illegal drugs were reported, but prescription medication with proper labelling was discovered. In his memoir, titled “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” Matthew had recently shared about his struggle with addiction.
The memoir delved into Matthew’s battles with drug and alcohol dependency. Following a life-threatening event in 2018, when his colon ruptured and doctors gave him a mere “two percent chance” of survival, he was prescribed opiates, which ultimately led him down the path of addiction to street drugs, including fentanyl-laced OxyContin.
Matthew was a staunch advocate for aiding others facing similar struggles. He once stated, prior to his passing: “When my time comes, I want the focus to be on helping others, not just on ‘Friends’. That’s how I intend to spend the rest of my days – proving that. Addiction is a force too formidable for one person to conquer alone. But united, one day at a time, we can overcome it.”
In his memory, his loved ones established the Matthew Perry Foundation to offer support to those grappling with addiction.
