Documentary presenter Louis Theroux has provided an update on his struggle with facial hair loss, disclosing that his eyebrows have also been impacted. Earlier in January, he shared an image on social media displaying patches in his facial hair, suggesting it was likely due to alopecia.

On Monday, the 53-year-old shared a video update on his Instagram, using the hashtag #alopecia, revealing a significant loss of hair from his eyebrows.

The post read: “I’m grappling with the challenge of sustaining a career primarily centred around manipulating my eyebrows when, lo and behold, I find myself WITHOUT ANY EYEBROWS!!

“#alopecia I’m seriously contemplating getting them inked back on, but it feels like a monumental decision! Any thoughts?”

Alopecia, as per the NHS website, is the medical term for hair loss and can manifest in various forms, including hair “thinning” or complete hair loss.

Theroux provided an update in July, sharing on Instagram: “Oh dear, it appears that the alopecia has extended to my eyebrows.”

“I understand not everyone is eagerly anticipating every update on my progress, but I’d prefer people to gradually get used to the new me, with some hair removal, rather than shock everyone by suddenly appearing in public looking like a half-plucked elephant bird without any prior notice.

“So, here’s where things stand. I really hope to keep my eyebrows, but that decision is beyond my control at this stage… although I’ve started taking vitamin D and a supplement called biotin.”

Theroux is renowned for immersing himself in fringe political groups, cults, and gangs for BBC documentaries.

The BBC is currently airing a second series of ‘Louis Theroux Interviews’, where the presenter engages with various well-known figures, including Hollywood actress Dame Joan Collins and The Libertines’ frontman Pete Doherty.
