On Thursday’s episode of Loose Women, the panel delved into the impact of weight on their professional lives. Coleen Nolan candidly shared her experience, highlighting how job opportunities varied based on her body size.

Reflecting on this, she revealed, “There was a period when I shed a significant amount of weight during my time on Dancing on Ice, slimming down to a size 10. Suddenly, I noticed a surge in job offers, particularly in primetime television. It struck me as peculiar because it wasn’t as though I emerged victorious on Dancing on Ice; my performance was subpar.”

Coleen has reflected on the enduring impact her time on Dancing on Ice had on her, revealing to OK! magazine, “Whenever I hear the music from Dancing On Ice, I still experience nerves and that queasy feeling.”

“Even if you’ve enjoyed the experience, those memories of anxiety and adrenaline rush back, giving you that same sensation again.”

Over the years, Coleen has been a favourite contestant on various reality shows. She secured second place in the celebrity edition of Big Brother back in 2012, returning five years later to clinch the title.

In a recent update, she disclosed her triumph in quitting smoking, labelling it as the “toughest challenge” she’s ever faced, considering her years as a committed smoker during much of her adult life.

Coleen made the decision to resign following advice from doctors who warned her of the risk of developing emphysema. In a video shared on her Instagram page, she revealed, “I recently fell seriously ill with a severe chest infection. For several days, I struggled to breathe.”

Describing the impact of this health scare, she added, “Since that incident two weeks ago, I haven’t smoked a single cigarette. And you know what? I have no desire to. Life is far too valuable.”

Reflecting on the profound effect this experience had on her, she expressed, “When I was struggling to breathe, my first thought was, ‘I might not be able to enjoy being the grandparent I aspire to be when my children have children.’ It made me realise the importance of preserving my health for the future.”

Last year, Coleen was taken aback upon learning she had basal cell carcinoma, a frequently occurring yet manageable type of skin cancer.

“It was incredibly daunting to find out about the precancerous skin melanoma, especially with the news of my sister Linda’s cancer spreading to her brain.

“It truly shifts your perspective and underscores the fragility of life. I now strive to embrace each day as if it were my final one and let go of unnecessary worries.”
