In a tragic incident on the M53, a school bus overturned, claiming the lives of a 14-year-old schoolgirl and a dedicated bus operator. This calamity unfolded shortly past 8 o’clock in the morning, leaving 11 young scholars necessitating medical attention, among them two who sustained grave injuries.

The two scholars, bearing severe injuries, were swiftly transported to the distinguished Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Concurrently, the remaining pupils were conveyed to proximate medical facilities to address their comparatively minor injuries, as confirmed by the North West Ambulance Service.

Alder Hey and the North West Ambulance Service both formally declared this incident as major, although Alder Hey subsequently adjusted their assessment.

Eyewitnesses recounted a harrowing scene, where children managed to extricate themselves through the rear window, finding solace on the unforgiving shoulder of the road. This escape followed the bus’s violent rollover and subsequent impact with a reservation, spurred by a regrettable encounter with another vehicle.

It is understood that the bus was en route to both a girls’ grammar school and a boys’ grammar school located in the precincts of West Kirby, Merseyside.

A sizeable contingent of approximately 50 children sought refuge in a triage centre situated in Wallasey. Out of this number, an impressive 39 were promptly released, while the remaining were promptly transported to various medical facilities for requisite care.

This tragic episode unfolded immediately past the junction 5, as one approached the bustling metropolis of Liverpool. The motorway found itself in a state of closure, spanning from Junction 5 at Hooton to Junction 4 at Clatterbridge.
