Knife Found at Scene as Anti-Terror Police Investigate Fatal Assault in Hartlepool

Anti-terror police are currently investigating a case in Hartlepool involving the death of one individual and the assault of another.

Following an incident in the Tees Street area of the town in the early hours of Sunday, a 44-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of both murder and attempted murder.

Cleveland Police is collaborating with Counter Terrorism Policing North East to thoroughly examine the situation.

At the scene, a significant area has been cordoned off, and a bloodied kitchen knife was discovered on the pavement.

A spokesperson for the force stated that there is no perceived ongoing threat to public safety.

They elaborated, ‘Cleveland Police are probing the events of Sunday, 15th October 2023, where a man lost his life and another was assaulted in the Tees Street area of Hartlepool. The 44-year-old suspect remains in police custody, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.’

‘Due to initial inquiries, we’re working in conjunction with Counter Terrorism Policing North East, leveraging their specialist resources to ascertain the details of the incident.’

‘Currently, there is no indication of any imminent threat to the local community in relation to this occurrence. The area remains cordoned off, and a property search is underway.’

‘The assaulted individual has been hospitalised and is being treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.’

The North East Ambulance Service reported, ‘We received an emergency call from Raby Street, Hartlepool, at 5:43 am on 15th October. Three ambulance crews and one doctor were dispatched to the scene.'”
