Kerry Katona asserted that there was a sense of anticipation surrounding Holly Willoughby’s departure from This Morning.

Holly, who had been at the helm of the ITV daytime programme since 2009, surprised viewers with her announcement of leaving the show. Her time on the programme had its ups and downs, starting with an accusation, alongside former co-presenter Phillip Schofield, of bypassing protocol when viewing the late Queen lying in state at Westminster Hall.

Subsequently, Holly was devastated to learn about Phillip’s dishonesty regarding a romantic involvement with a younger male crew member on the show. This revelation led to Phillip’s exit from ITV altogether, and Holly took the step of unfollowing him on social media in the aftermath of the fallout.

In her OK! column, former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry expressed no surprise at Holly Willoughby’s recent departure from the show. She noted, “Holly Willoughby has stepped away from This Morning and I think it was the right time, I wasn’t surprised. We were kind of all waiting for it, weren’t we? I give Holly her due and I think that everyone has to move on at some point, it’s nice to have shake-ups in TV too. ITV haven’t said who will replace her yet but I really like Christine Lampard, I think she’d be great. I like Craig Doyle too, he and Christine would make a bloody amazing team.”

Holly bid farewell to her fans with a heartfelt statement on Instagram, expressing, “‘This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you. Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day. It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss.”

Holly’s departure follows a period of staff and crew readjusting to normalcy after the upheaval surrounding Phillip’s dramatic exit a few months ago. A source recently commented, “It has been one thing after another. It’s like a soap opera and that’s OK if you’re one of the highly-paid stars getting chauffeured to work and back, but if you’re grafting behind the scenes to keep things afloat, it’s incredibly frustrating,” as reported by MailOnline.
