Kate Garraway has revealed her ongoing concerns about the well-being of her husband, Derek Draper, following his recent hospital admission. Since his near-fatal battle with Covid in 2020, the former Labour lobbyist has faced several health challenges. Kate, known for her role on Good Morning Britain, is reported to be maintaining a constant bedside vigil and hoping for a miraculous recovery after Derek suffered a heart attack last week.

Reports suggest that Derek’s health took a critical turn last Monday, prompting concern among close friends and family about his deteriorating condition. In light of her husband’s latest health crisis, Kate has allegedly postponed all forthcoming TV and radio commitments to dedicate her time to his care.

Derek’s battle with long Covid stands as one of the most severe cases known to doctors. Despite narrowly surviving the virus after a 10-week struggle and a medically induced coma that saved his life, the father-of-two, who shares 17-year-old daughter Darcey and 14-year-old son Billy with Kate, continues to grapple with enduring health complications, necessitating constant care.

Sharing insights into life with Derek since his illness, Kate revealed to Good Housekeeping magazine, “I wish I could say that everything has been smooth since Derek returned home, that his presence has made the daily hurdles effortless. However, with recurrent emergency setbacks leading to numerous hospital rushes, the fear of losing him persists. The erratic nature of his day-to-day health keeps us on an emotional rollercoaster.”

Over three years have passed since Derek’s Covid diagnosis, which kept him hospitalised for a year. Now, facing a daunting challenge, Kate and her family fervently hope for Derek’s recovery following his recent heart attack, just a fortnight before Christmas.

“A miracle is what everyone is praying for,” shared a source with The Sun. “Derek suffered a severe heart attack, catching everyone off guard as he had been progressing well and eagerly anticipating Christmas with the family at home. This setback has deeply affected his family and the devoted caregivers.”

The source mentioned Kate’s constant presence by Derek’s side, offering unwavering support in his critical condition. “She remains with him round the clock, urging him to overcome this latest life-threatening battle,” they said. “Derek has battled against the odds many times, and Kate has been a pillar of strength, balancing her role as a devoted mother to Darcey and Billy, while managing their hopes for a family Christmas.

Kate had previously expressed her desire for a relaxed Christmas this year, mentioning their hope to celebrate at home despite Derek’s hospitalisation for treatment in early December. She shared, “We aimed for this in the summer, but you know how referrals and timing can be.”

The couple, married since 2005, had planned to gather their entire family at their North London home. Kate explained, “It’s a practical choice due to Derek’s travel challenges. Hosting at home makes it easier for everyone, even if they have to endure my cooking!” However, these plans are now uncertain as Derek battles for his life in hospital. News Prime has contacted representatives of Kate and Derek for additional comments on this situation.
