A Place In The Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin has expressed his disbelief at reaching the milestone of his 50th birthday amidst his ongoing battle with cancer. The 49-year-old was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2020, a condition that has sadly progressed to his brain. Initially given a grim prognosis, he was informed that he might not live to witness his twins’ third birthday party. Jonnie, who shares children Rex (four) and twins Rafa and Cormac (three) with his wife Jessica, is now almost five months past that critical mark.

Despite the challenges, the presenter is focusing on cherishing moments with his loved ones and making the most of life. Approaching his 50th birthday, Jonnie disclosed plans for a celebratory trip to Spain with his family, including his wife and children. This special occasion comes as he awaits the results of his radiotherapy treatments.

Reflecting on his journey, Jonnie shared, “I never thought I’d be here. I’m really looking forward to some time with Jess and the boys.”

In an interview with The Sun, Jonnie revealed that, despite never previously contemplating mortality, his arduous battle with cancer forced him to confront thoughts of death. He confessed, “I’d never thought about dying, despite the cancer, and Jess and I don’t talk about it. But at my weakest point, I thought, ‘This is it, this is the beginning of the end’.”

As of November, Jonnie disclosed that the tumour, initially in his lung, had spread to his brain. In light of his diagnosis, the 49-year-old presenter has been dedicated to creating lasting memories with his wife and children. Regularly taking to social media, he shares glimpses of family nights and outings through videos and photos.

Celebrating his seventh wedding anniversary last month with his 40-year-old wife Jessica, Jonnie marked the occasion with a romantic meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant. The couple relished some quality alone time, with the TV star later sharing a snapshot on Instagram. The image captured Jonnie and Jessica seated across from each other, poised to enjoy a dessert during their memorable night out.

Jonnie shared a delightful image online, accompanied by a heartfelt caption: “Celebrating 7 years married to this incredible Angel. I use the term because her love for others is truly incomparable. Last night was just about us—chatting, planning, and indulging in some gossip. It was so good. The amazing food and staff at @lovagejesmond made our evening absolutely perfect. #anniversary.”

His post caught the attention of social media followers, with A Place in the Sun star Jasmine Harman being one of the first to react. She reminisced, saying, “Gosh, 7 years! I remember your wedding day like it was yesterday! Lots of love to you both and Happy Anniversary.” Amanda Lamb, another A Place in the Sun host, also chimed in, exclaiming, “Happiest of days to you both, you gorgeous pair,” accompanied by three red heart emojis.
