Jimmy Carr has been criticised for his “rude” and “disgusting” heckling of This Morning chef Clodagh McKenna.

The comedian was interviewed by hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, who present the show’s Friday episodes instead of the ITV daytime series’s regular presenters. However, he quickly angered viewers by repeatedly interrupting McKenna while she was speaking.

Carr, who is no stranger to controversy, joined Hammond and O’Leary during a segment where Irish chef and author McKenna cooked a dish and explained her methods.

Viewers became increasingly annoyed with Carr as he mocked McKenna’s pronunciation of certain ingredients and eventually criticised the finished meal she had prepared.

During the segment, Carr questioned McKenna’s pronunciation of what he thought was the word “thyme”. The confused chef responded: “No, I never mentioned thyme.”

As McKenna talked through the recipe within her allotted time, Carr joked: “I need a pen – you’re really racing through this.” When she mentioned “how to make chicken three ways”, Carr, sensing an opportunity for a joke, said: “What about chicken one way?”

His interruptions continued. When McKenna placed a chicken carcass in a saucepan, Carr remarked: “Have you not got a bin?” Although McKenna tried to carry on, Carr added: “Pop it in the bin! It’s gone, the chicken is gone.”

After McKenna finished cooking the meal, Carr questioned its quality, saying “You could make that even nicer by leaving out the broccoli.”

O’Leary, evidently sympathising with McKenna, put a reassuring arm around her shoulder and acknowledged that it seemed “difficult” for her to do her job while being “heckled” by a comedian.

Viewers concurred and, after becoming infuriated by Carr’s interruptions, Carr was labelled as “rude”, “arrogant”, and “disgusting”.

One viewer fumed: “Jimmy Carr’s childish behaviour whilst @clodaghmckenna was trying to do her piece on today’s @thismorning was so rude & disrespectful, he even took the mick out of her accent.”

McKenna’s Instagram has been inundated with responses from fans complaining about Carr, with one fan writing: “Well done on biting your tongue with Jimmy Carr’s rudeness. The hosts were clearly mortified.”

Another fan commented: “You were amazing despite extreme interference.”

In 2022, Carr faced heavy criticism for a “truly disturbing” joke he made about travellers in one of his Netflix specials.

The inclusion of the joke by the streaming service was branded “outrageous” by viewers, who deemed the joke “indefensible.”

Over the years, Carr has been criticised multiple times for his controversial jokes, which have targeted groups such as people with Down’s Syndrome, amputee veterans, and individuals with dwarfism.
