In Elle’s Women in Hollywood issue released last Thursday, Jennifer Lopez, aged 54, expressed her perspective on the increasing availability of acting roles for mature women.

According to Lopez, there’s a growing recognition that women become more captivating with age. “People now understand that as women age, they exude more allure. They accumulate knowledge and depth of character,” she remarked. “All of this is incredibly beautiful and appealing, not just physically, but in the richness that grows within, the wisdom that comes with age.”

The actress from Maid in Manhattan expressed her satisfaction with the evolving standards in Hollywood, emphasizing the shift towards acknowledging the value of women regardless of their age.

“There’s been a significant shift, and I believe it’s fitting,” she conveyed to Elle.

“As one gains more years and accumulates a wealth of experiences, they evolve into a more enriched individual with a deeper reservoir of wisdom to offer. The notion that a woman over the age of 30 lacks value is utterly preposterous, and in fact, it’s quite the contrary. It elicits nothing but laughter,” she articulated.

Lopez emphasised that her foundational principles have consistently urged her to persevere. It’s this very mindset that propels her towards advancing in her professional journey.

“I envisage myself working for as long as I desire. The specific age remains uncertain – it could be 70, 80, or even 90. However, the possibility remains open to me, and I aim to manifest it,” expressed the ‘Jenny from the Block’ singer.

“This has always been my outlook: to refuse to be confined by societal expectations based on my birthplace, background, or age. Those boundaries simply do not constrain me.”

When questioned about her forthcoming endeavours, Lopez expressed her eagerness to explore fresh avenues.

“I aspire to continuously evolve. There’s a chance I might step into the director’s role for my own film at some point,” she revealed, acknowledging that she had declined several directing offers due to time constraints.

Lopez is gearing up for a significant return in another domain — the release of her first album in almost a decade.

On Monday, she unveiled “This Is Me… Now,” set to follow in the footsteps of her 2002 album “This Is Me… Then,” slated for release on Feb. 16. Accompanying this project is the documentary “This Is Me…Now: The Film,” described as a “musical and visual reinterpretation of her heavily scrutinised romantic life,” as per the announcement.

Her upcoming single, “Can’t Get Enough,” is set to debut on Jan. 10.
