Is the credit card featured in Squid Game: The Challenge authentic?

The purported golden United credit card showcased in Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge isn’t genuine; it serves as a prop.

For those who’ve followed the series, Player 278, Mai Whelan, emerged victorious. During the concluding showdown, Mai and her fellow finalist, Player 451 (Phill Cain), engaged in rounds of rock, paper, scissors. Each round’s winner could try a key to unlock a safe containing the ultimate prize.

Their repeated attempts culminated in Mai’s stroke of luck. Upon opening the safe, she discovered a golden credit card, featuring the digits ‘5861580424713011’ and an expiry date of ’06/25′, prominently zoomed in by the camera.

In the climactic scene, Mai proceeds to a cash machine, inserts the card, and enters the pin ‘0287’—her Squid Game: The Challenge identification number.

Fans swiftly noticed these specifics. One person commented, “The card and the PIN code,” accompanied by a crying emoji. Another remarked, “Squid Game slip-up, they revealed the card number on live TV.” A third added, “VAL SAYING ‘WRITING THE CARD NUMBER DOWN’ DURING THE SQUID GAME FINALE.”

A fourth inquiry arose, “Just curious, was that gold ‘United’ credit card at the end of the last game (inside the safe) a genuine credit card? I understand the displayed balance on the ATM is fictitious as taxes were meant to be deducted.”

While some believed Netflix erred in displaying the credit card number on TV, it’s important to clarify that the card isn’t genuine; it’s purely for dramatic effect. Any Luhn Check verifier would confirm that the lengthy number isn’t valid.

In essence, Mai is the sole beneficiary allowed to indulge in spending.
