Imelda Staunton is set to take on the role of Dolly Levi in Jerry Herman’s renowned Broadway musical, “Hello, Dolly!” at the London Palladium starting from July 2024, for a limited engagement.

The multi-Olivier and BAFTA Award-winning actress will portray the meddlesome socialite turned matchmaker, Dolly Levi, who embarks on a journey to Yonkers, New York, in search of a suitable match for the wealthy, unmarried ‘half-a-millionaire’ Horace Vandergelder. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when she realises that she herself is in need of a match.

Directed by Dominic Cooke, the production will also feature Andy Nyman as Horace Vandergelder, Jenna Russell as Irene Molloy, Tyrone Huntley as Barnaby Tucker, and Harry Hepple as Cornelius Hackl.

“Hello, Dolly!” boasts music and lyrics by Jerry Herman (known for works such as “La Cage aux Folles,” “Mack and Mabel,” and “Mame”) and a book by Michael Stewart (renowned for productions like “42nd Street,” “Mack and Mabel,” and “Barnum”). It stands as one of the most iconic musicals in history. The timeless score by Jerry Herman includes classics like ‘Put On Your Sunday Clothes’, ‘Ribbons Down My Back’, ‘Before the Parade Passes By’, ‘Elegance’, ‘It Only Takes a Moment’, and, of course, ‘Hello, Dolly!’.

Performances for “Hello, Dolly!” are scheduled to commence on 6th July 2024, running for a limited 10-week season.
