Approximately 400 Jewish individuals gathered in Parliament Square on Thursday evening to vehemently denounce the ongoing violence against Palestinians in Gaza.

It was a sight to behold, witnessing such a substantial number of Jewish demonstrators expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. The event featured a series of poignant speeches that offered firsthand testimonies of the situation in Gaza. Protesters brandished placards bearing messages such as “Not in my name” and “Jews against genocide.”

This assembly carried significant weight. Both the Conservative and Labour parties are vying to demonstrate unwavering support for Israel, despite the deeply troubling nature of their actions. They justify this stance by claiming to protect Jewish interests.

Kier Starmer has cemented his leadership by blurring the lines between anti-Zionism and antisemitism, effectively quashing dissent from the Labour left.

The protest was orchestrated by Na’amod, meaning “We will stand” in Hebrew. Their website states, “We are a movement of Jews in the UK seeking to end our community’s support for Israel’s occupation and apartheid, and to mobilise it in the struggle for freedom, equality and justice for all Palestinians and Israelis.”

Tamara Sternberg attended the event with Na’amod and expressed, “We are outraged by our Judaism being weaponised for anti-Palestinian racism.”

Diana Neslen pointed out, “You cannot be a colonial occupier and claim you are defending yourself against an oppressed people you have besieged for 17 years. Jews acknowledge the grim reality of genocide and refuse to witness its repetition. I believe there are numerous Jews who are appalled by what is transpiring in our name.”

The once-unified Zionist stance is beginning to fracture. A Jewish Bloc is set to participate in this Saturday’s demonstration.
