On Christmas Eve, ITV aired the sequel to Home Alone, ‘Lost in New York’, following the misadventures of Kevin McAllister (played by Macaulay Culkin) as he once again finds himself separated from his family, this time in the bustling streets of the Big Apple.

In an improbable turn of events, the burglars Marv and Harry also find themselves in New York, continuing their thieving ways as the city’s sticky bandits. Despite the vast population and multitude of visitors in one of the world’s most popular places, they coincidentally cross paths with Kevin – seeking vengeance.

Amidst the film’s daunting moments, from a pigeon lady resembling Piers Morgan to a cameo appearance by Donald Trump, there’s much to evoke a sense of terror in the second Home Alone.

Yet, there’s an undeniably humorous scene where Kevin sets traps for Marv and Harry in an abandoned house he discovers. Marv receives an electric shock, briefly revealing his skeleton—a truly iconic moment that, despite its iconic status, didn’t make it to the broadcast.

Seriously, ITV? Removing the best part of Home Alone 2 where Marv turns into a skeleton from being electrocuted?” exclaimed Kaitlyn Murphy, who shared a clip of the scene.

And she wasn’t alone in her confusion.

Ryan, another viewer, expressed disappointment, saying, “I was really disappointed. It can’t be because of the meme it’s known for, but surely it’s not because it’s too ‘scary’ either?!

“Seriously, if @ITV isn’t willing to showcase the best jokes the entire film builds up for two hours, they might as well not air it at all,” expressed Josh, a user on social media.

Stuart Bereton labelled it as ‘the highlight of the film,’ a sentiment echoed by others.

Claire Cook tweeted, ‘I thought I had imagined it when it was missing. Can’t comprehend why they omitted it.’

The disappointment surfaced after Home Alone enthusiasts recently noticed a rather poignant detail in the first movie, when Kevin rushes downstairs to find his entire family has left him behind.

Macaulay Culkin was recently honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with Catherine O’Hara, his on-screen mother from Home Alone, delivering a speech in his tribute.

‘Home Alone has, and always will be, a cherished global phenomenon,’ she remarked.

‘The reason families worldwide can’t go a year without watching and cherishing Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin.’

Metro.co.uk reached out to ITV for comment regarding this matter.

‘Home Alone: Lost In New York City’ (uncut) is now available for streaming on Netflix.
