Hollyoaks actor Ashley Taylor Dawson has hinted at an “exciting year ahead” for his character, Darren Osborne, in the wake of the arrival of his twin children, Frankie (played by Isabelle Smith) and Jack Jr (played by Ryan Mulvey).

In recent scenes of the Channel 4 soap, the village resident was shocked to discover that his son and daughter had returned to Hollyoaks after a clash with Darren’s wife and Hollyoaks High deputy head, Nancy Osborne (played by Jessica Fox), during their school’s taster day.

Making inappropriate comments near a memorial for Ella Richardson, who recently died in a tragic car crash, Darren confronted Frankie and Jack Jr. To his surprise, his ex, Hannah Ashworth (played by Emma Rigby), suddenly appeared and disclosed that the teenagers were indeed his children.

Discussing what lies ahead for Darren, Ashley shared with Daily Star: “It’s been very busy, very chaotic, but it’s been good having the nostalgia of it all and having certain characters come back. I think there’s enough history there to draw from, so it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Nancy has recently returned to Hollyoaks after a trip to America to seek medical treatment for her daughter, Morgan. However, any hopes of a romantic reunion are dashed as more familiar faces are set to arrive in the village, namely Suzanne Ashworth (Suzanne Hall) and Freddie Roscoe (Charlie Clapham).

Ashley expressed, “For Darren, Nancy coming back is a breath of fresh air. Sadly, it’s completely distorted straight away with his son and daughter turning up. It’s like going out of the frying pan into the fire. There’s no time to settle and no time to rejoice at being a family unit again because chaos ensues right away.”

Darren is thrust into a whirlwind of new challenges, ones that never existed before. However, the return of familiar characters like Hannah and Suzanne Ashworth brings a sense of nostalgia. With Freddie Roscoe, Darren’s half-brother, making a sudden appearance, the upcoming year promises to be thrilling and full of surprises.

In the upcoming Hollyoaks episodes, spoilers hint at Darren attempting to connect with Frankie and Jack Jr. However, Ashley reveals that there’s considerable tension between Darren and his children. According to Ashley, the twins harbor animosity due to their absent father. Darren, having stayed away from their lives based on various stories, decides to mend bridges with Nancy and Suzanne present, promising an interesting turn of events.
