A guest featured on BBC’s popular show Escape to the Country became visibly emotional as she sought a ‘whole new life’ away from urban living.

The programme follows urban residents seeking a change from city life to idyllic countryside locations. In the episode airing on Thursday, December 21, host and former Bake Off contestant Briony May Williams met Kathy, who had been residing in a spacious six-bedroom house in Hampshire.

When questioned about her decision to leave her current home and relocate, Kathy explained that the house felt too large now that her five children had all grown up and moved out. However, despite this not being an issue for Kathy, a personal tragedy struck three years ago.

Kathy’s husband, David, her partner of many years, sadly passed away under unknown circumstances. Even though the tragedy occurred three years ago, it was evident that Kathy was still deeply affected by his loss, as tears welled up when discussing her reasons for wanting to move.

Kathy shared, “At present, I’m simply coasting along without a clear purpose. I’m yearning for something to ignite my drive and motivation once more.” She expressed a desire for a fresh start, stating, “I crave a renewed sense of purpose and an entirely new chapter in life.”

Expressing her longing for change, Kathy revealed her inclination to swap the lively atmosphere of Hampshire for the serene tranquility of the Dorset coastline in southern England. “It’s a place that held significance in my childhood holidays, and I feel an innate connection and comfort there,” she elaborated.

Presenter Briony had an array of properties to showcase, buoyed by Kathy’s substantial budget of £925,000 for her new home. Additionally, Kathy expressed an interest in potentially establishing a holiday rental business, giving Briony more scope to tailor her options accordingly.

Altogether, BBC executives uncovered four exceptional properties in the area, and Kathy eagerly prepared to relocate after selling her home in Hampshire. Accompanied by her son Connor, Kathy developed a fondness for two of the showcased houses, envisioning her future in these potential homes.

After touring all four properties, Kathy found herself particularly drawn to the second one located in the county border village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, adjacent to Devon. Both Kathy and Connor were captivated upon their initial viewing, likening the house to a Mediterranean villa owing to its enclosed garden.

Considering her choices, she invited friends to the property, but they dissuaded her due to its thatched roof. Subsequently, after delving deeper into the area, she opted against purchasing any property, extending her quest for her dream home beyond the conclusion of filming.

Despite not locating her belongings, she expressed that with her husband, David, supporting her, all things seemed achievable. She remarked, ‘He’s been incredibly supportive, cheering me on as I take steps towards a fresh start, embracing life once more and relishing every moment.'”
