Renowned as the panto villain on the BBC One ballroom competition, he’s infamous for his unflinching critique of contestants each week.

However, Craig Revel Horwood astounded viewers during the live final of Strictly Come Dancing this week by displaying rare emotion. The 58-year-old visibly struggled to maintain his composure as Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola were crowned champions of the 2023 series.

Following the show, the judge took to social media to extend congratulations to the beloved BBC programme for yet another successful series. He expressed, “Tonight witnessed one of the most extraordinary finals I’ve had the privilege to behold!

“Thank you, Strictly, for being utterly fabulous and keeping us captivated throughout the festive season. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.”

May the festive season bring you joy, and may the upcoming year gift you with countless cherished memories and thrilling adventures!”

After delivering his heartfelt message, concerns have been voiced by fans suggesting that the longstanding judge may be bidding farewell to his dancing duties for good in the approaching year.

Body language analyst Judi James, speaking to The Mirror, has disclosed that the TV personality, a fixture on the show since 2004, might be preparing for a departure that will deeply disappoint fans. Observing the live final, she noted that the star has begun to offer glimpses into his true personality.

She remarked, “His sudden display of more tender emotions, seemingly overwhelmed by them, wasn’t entirely uncharacteristic of Craig’s true nature. What stood out was his decision to reveal these emotions live on TV for a substantial portion of the show.

“Craig displayed visible emotion, openly tearful and overwhelmed on occasions. While tears might be common on shows like Strictly, Craig’s were genuine, prompting fans to ponder their cause.

During Ellie’s final performance, the star poignantly remarked, ‘This is the last time I will get to speak to you,’ a sentiment Judi underscored as reflective of the star’s struggle with emotions near the surface.

An expert argued that the authenticity of Craig’s feelings was evident in the reactions of his fellow judges on the show. Judi elucidated, ‘The other three judges appeared composed and smiled, but Motsi, seemingly the closest friend to Craig, reached out to offer a consoling squeeze of his shoulder.'”

The dancer has previously revealed his intention to depart from the show upon reaching 60 years old. When asked if he ever considers taking a hiatus from the dazzling show, Craig confessed, ‘I’ll do that when I’m 60, hang up my shoes, and relish life.’

‘But for now, I’m putting in the hard work while I still can, especially because I adore what I do. It keeps me on my toes, darlings!’ Fans will need to stay tuned to discover if the longstanding judge will continue his role on the show next year.
