Sir Elton, aged 76, had sent a note along with some money to settle matters with the 63-year-old pundit following a match between Leicester City and Watford FC.

The renowned singer of “Candle in the Wind” is a vocal supporter and former chairman of his local team, having been associated with the club since 1976.

Nevertheless, he had to concede defeat in a match between his cherished team and Gary’s Leicester City, the club the former footballer himself played for in earlier times.

In the recent Championship match held in November, the sports broadcaster’s favorites secured a 2-0 victory, compelling Elton to settle a £10 bet.

Gary captioned a photo showcasing the cash and a handwritten letter, saying, ‘Elton John always pays his dues. Leicester 2 Watford 0.’

The message said: ‘Dear Gary, Apologies for the delay! The Christmas rush left us a bit tight! Have a fantastic new year. It was wonderful catching up! Thank you. Best, Elton.’

Despite Elton’s colossal wealth of £480 million ($550 million), Gary had to wait until December 27 for his payment due to the holiday season.

The iconic figure of ‘I’m Still Standing’ fame, Elton John, holds a profound dedication to Watford. In tribute, the street outside the stadium has been renamed after him, now known as Occupation Road, following a campaign led by a dedicated group of fans known as The 1881 Movement.

Starting from last month, the road has been renamed Yellow Brick Road, a nod to his 1973 hit album. Bright yellow signs have been put up to commemorate this occasion.

Reflecting on this recognition, he expressed, “Using Yellow Brick Road is a truly fantastic and clever way for supporters to acknowledge a period when I was here almost every day – on an incredible journey with Graham Taylor, the former Watford manager.”

Acknowledging the honour, he added, “Having a stand named after me at Vicarage Road makes me feel incredibly special. Even when I return here on a non-matchday, there’s a certain excitement because this is where my love affair with football and my club began.”

He continued, “I’ve said it many times before, Watford Football Club has given me more in my lifetime than I could ever have given back.”
