Saturday night marked a significant event for both the participants and viewers of Strictly, presenting a quarter-final themed around musicals that delivered moments of triumph and challenge.

Dianne Buswell and her dance partner, Bobby Brazier, captivated audiences with a Salsa performance inspired by Dirty Dancing, set to the tune of “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. However, the Australian dancer expressed her disappointment regarding the routine via Instagram on Sunday.

Reflecting on the challenge of recreating the iconic lift from the film, where Patrick Swayze lifted Jennifer Grey overhead with her arms and legs extended, Dianne shared an image of Bobby successfully performing it during rehearsals.

The star also penned a detailed caption that started with: “Disappointed that the LIFT didn’t go as smoothly as it did in most rehearsals.”

The duo’s big lift didn’t quite go to plan

She continued, “However, it’s important to note that we took a risk and opted for a challenging dance rather than playing it safe. The dance was demanding and carried significant cultural weight, naturally leading to pressure to perform it impeccably. There was a sense of disappointment in not quite meeting that mark.

Nevertheless, Bobby and I were eager to push our boundaries and test ourselves. This, in itself, signifies success and personal growth. Let’s shift our attention to the remarkable aspects of the dance: Bobby confidently led me across the floor, displaying impressive hip movements, footwork, and expressive prowess. Considering he embarked on this dancing journey a mere 11 weeks ago, his overall improvement is truly commendable!”

It was remarkable! Both of you executed it superbly.”

Former Strictly professional James Jordan also contributed, remarking, “Executing such a challenging lift under pressure is no mean feat – a pity, but an exceptional rendition of arguably the most iconic dance in history. It brought back waves of nostalgia [clapping emoji].”

The dancer is so proud of Bobby’s progress

Earlier this week, on the spin-off show It Takes Two, the duo made their first announcement about attempting the iconic lift. They shared light-hearted banter about the complexity of the move and openly admitted feeling nervous in anticipation of Saturday night.

“I’m soaring eight feet high with no safety net!” teased the courageous professional dancer, playfully teasing her partner, an EastEnders actor, about his stature. Bobby, in reassurance, suggested it was the opportune moment to embrace added challenges. “This is quarter-final territory, Di!” he quipped.
