Greg Rutherford has had to bow out of Dancing On Ice mere hours before the programme’s live final, sidelined by an injury.

As a result, the finale will now see only three celebrities taking to the ice – Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts, and Miles Nazaire. Greg, aged 37, has reportedly suffered a “significant” injury, his professional skating partner Vanessa James revealed.

Vanessa James took to Instagram to share the unfortunate news, stating, “Unfortunately, Greg has sustained a significant injury this morning during rehearsals and will be unable to perform tonight. We’re currently en route to the hospital for Greg to undergo further examination and receive the necessary treatment.”

Prior to this setback, Greg was in the process of recovering from an earlier injury, one he feared might jeopardise his continuation in the contest. Reflecting on the situation earlier in the week with The Mirror, the Olympic athlete expressed his frustration, remarking, “I was gutted at first – that’s just typical for me, sustaining an injury at the worst possible time.”

Sharon, the physiotherapist attached to the show, has been absolutely tireless in her efforts to ensure my recovery is on track and progressing well. At present, we’re navigating through the healing process, which admittedly involves a bit of soreness and tightness.

However, I’m capable of performing what’s required of me. I’m genuinely grateful to be here and couldn’t be happier about it.

Supporters have extended their heartfelt wishes to Greg following the unfortunate announcement. One expressed their disappointment, saying, “Oh no, he was my winner.”

Another person expressed their disappointment, saying, “You were amazing. Gutted to not see you both tonight. The most important thing is Greg is ok.”

Someone else commented, “Oh goodness me. You’ve had a fantastic run and we are all super proud of you both and your journey. The most important thing is Greg is okay.”

Dancing On Ice is set to air this evening at 6.25 pm on ITV.
