Yet another Coronation Street stalwart is rumoured to bid adieu to the beloved ITV series. Speculation swirls that an actress is bidding farewell to the show.

Lisa George, known for her portrayal of Beth Tinker for 13 years on the Cobbles, is reportedly set to depart next summer. This news surfaces just weeks after George dismissed exit rumours in an interview with The Mirror.

Despite recent reports confirming George’s signing of a new contract, it appears she’s decided to step away from the soap. After more than a decade on this popular show, it seems Lisa is eager for fresh challenges.

Insiders suggest that Lisa has chosen to leave her role, with her character’s exit slated for next summer. Although specifics about the storyline remain under wraps.

A source revealed to The Sun regarding Beth’s potential departure: “Lisa’s time on Corrie has been substantial, offering both comedic and heartrending moments. She’s captured audiences with her humorous scenes but also moved them deeply in emotive storylines like Sinead’s death. While she holds a deep affection for Corrie, she feels the moment is ripe to explore new avenues and embrace fresh challenges.”

The Mirror reached out to Corrie’s spokesperson for comments on this development, but as of now, there has been no official response.

In October, actress Lisa expressed her puzzlement to The Mirror regarding rumors of her departure, noting her character Beth’s absence from the screen for a period.

Addressing her aspirations away from the show in an interview, Lisa disclosed she was awaiting news about her new contract, which has since been renewed. This led to a flurry of reports suggesting her potential exit from the show, something she promptly refuted to another publication.

Affirming her commitment to the soap, Lisa clarified she had secured a new contract and had no intention of leaving. She explained her absence on screen, citing travel during the summer and contracting coronavirus before the pivotal super soap week episodes.

Due to several team members falling ill with the virus during filming for the super soap week, some of Lisa’s scenes were cut. However, she assured everyone of her imminent return and confirmed she was not departing from her role.

In her words, “I’ve got a new contract. It’s really strange, everyone was saying you’re leaving, you’re leaving. I was asked about my contract, and I mentioned waiting. Then suddenly, everyone’s calling me saying, ‘you’re leaving, you’re leaving’.

“I was taken aback, I didn’t have any knowledge of it. It’s just bizarre how it blew up from a passing comment.” Addressing speculations about Beth leaving her partner Kirk Sutherland, she stated firmly, “She’d never leave him!”
