British actor Tom Wilkinson, celebrated for his role in ‘The Full Monty’, has passed away at the age of 75

Renowned British actor Tom Wilkinson, celebrated for his iconic performance in ‘The Full Monty’, passed away at the age of 75 last Saturday.

His family affirmed that he peacefully passed away at his residence, surrounded by his dear ones, a disclosure initially reported by the BBC.

“In this time of grief, the family kindly requests privacy,” the statement conveyed.

Wilkinson, with an impressive 130 credits to his name throughout his career according to IMDB, was a greatly versatile and acclaimed actor.

One of his memorable roles was as Gerald in the 1997 film ‘The Full Monty’, which follows a group of unemployed steelworkers forming a male striptease act, as described on IMDB.
His portrayal earned him a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for this beloved comedy. Recently, he reprised his role as Gerald in a reboot of ‘The Full Monty’ by Disney+ for a six-episode miniseries released this year.

He received BAFTA nominations for his performances in 2007’s ‘Michael Clayton’, 2001’s ‘In the Bedroom’, and 1998’s ‘Shakespeare in Love’, alongside his roles in TV series such as ‘Cold Enough for Snow’ and ‘Martin Chuzzlewit’.

Nominated for two Oscars, he was recognized for his exceptional acting – a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in ‘Michael Clayton’, led by George Clooney, and another for Best Actor in the gripping thriller ‘In the Bedroom’.

Wilkinson also clinched an Emmy for his supporting role as Benjamin Franklin in 2008’s ‘John Adams’. His outstanding work earned him three additional Emmy nominations, notably for portraying another historical figure, Joe Kennedy, father of John F. Kennedy, in 2011’s ‘The Kennedys’.

Among his notable film credits are ‘Sense and Sensibility,’ ‘Rush Hour,’ ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ and ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.’

As per the BBC, Wilkinson underwent training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. His inaugural significant role was in 1986’s ‘First Among Equals,’ where he acted alongside his wife, Diana Hardcastle.

The pair tied the knot in 1988 and continued collaborating on various projects. They appeared together in works such as 2014’s ‘Good People’ and ‘The Kennedys,’ where Hardcastle, aged 74, portrayed Wilkinson’s on-screen wife, Rose Kennedy, as reported by the BBC.

Wilkinson and Hardcastle share parenthood of two daughters, Alice and Molly.
