Billie Eilish found herself inadvertently revealing her personal feelings during an interview with Variety, a moment she didn’t anticipate as a public coming out.

Though not intentionally hiding her emotions, Eilish confessed that the reveal wasn’t entirely planned. In her cover story for Variety, she shared, “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”

At the recent Variety Hitmakers event, the 21-year-old songstress was approached about her comments. The interviewer probed, “We gotta talk about your cover story because you mention that you felt like for a long time women didn’t like you,” prompting a discussion on her disclosed sentiments.

She responded with a hint of shyness, “I’m still a bit apprehensive about it, but I find them quite beautiful.” The interviewer then broached the significant question that had been on everyone’s minds, “Billie, did you intend to disclose your sexuality in this narrative?”

Billie burst into laughter, “Oh no, not at all. But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’ It’s been… I just didn’t realise that people didn’t know,” explained the singer.

The interviewer, openly identifying as a member of the LGBTQ+ community during the conversation, expressed her perspective on the necessity of public coming out. “We should reach a point where there’s no need to come out,” she asserted.

The Bad Guy singer concurred, saying, “I just don’t really believe in it. Why can’t we just coexist?” she added, “I’ve been at this for a long time, and I just didn’t discuss it. Whoops.”

She later confessed that she was equally surprised when she saw the cover story after it was published. “I came across the articles and I thought, ‘Oh, I guess it’s out today!’ I was like, okay, cool,” she remarked.

“It’s thrilling for me because, well, I suppose people weren’t aware. So it’s great that they know, but I feel a bit jittery discussing it,” Billie added, chuckling nervously.

“I stand in support of the girls,” Billie affirmed as the interview drew to a close. The Grammy winner had previously encountered criticism online, with some accusing her of queerbaiting.

One Twitter user noted that those who had previously criticised her are now “keeping quiet.” Other users on social media expressed happiness for Billie, embracing her for who she is. “I think we all had an idea, but we wanted to respect her space and privacy,” read a tweet.
