Kate Micucci, known for her role as Lucy in the beloved CBS sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’, shared on TikTok that she’s been diagnosed with lung cancer. The 43-year-old actress and comedian disclosed her diagnosis from the hospital following surgery to remove the disease.

In her video, Micucci mentioned, “Hey everyone, this isn’t a TikTok, it’s a ‘Sick Tok.'” She explained, “I’m currently in the hospital because I underwent surgery for lung cancer yesterday. Thankfully, they detected it at an early stage.”

Reflecting on the unexpected diagnosis, she added, “It’s really strange because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life, so it came as a surprise. But I suppose these things happen. The great news is they caught it early, removed it, and I’m doing well.”

Lung cancer stands as the primary cause of cancer-related fatalities in the United States, claiming approximately one-fifth of all cancer deaths. While smoking remains the predominant factor contributing to lung cancer, it’s noteworthy that individuals who have never smoked can still be diagnosed with this condition, albeit less frequently.

The American Cancer Society highlights that non-smoker lung cancer can be triggered by exposure to elements such as radon, secondhand smoke, air pollution, and various other factors. Early-stage diagnosis offers a promising outlook, with around 70 percent of individuals surviving for at least five years. However, once the cancer metastasises, long-term survival rates plummet to as low as five percent.

Reflecting on her journey, Micucci expressed, “It’s been quite an experience, and I might take it slow for a few weeks, but I’ll soon be back to my painting.” With humour, she quipped, “Why am I still talking? Well, because I’m on medication!” while giving a thumbs up.

The post also featured a video of Micucci strolling slowly through the hospital in her gown, wheeling her IV drip alongside.

In the comments, the celebrity responded to a fan who inquired about the symptoms that led her to seek medical attention.

“I had a specific anomaly in my bloodwork that showed significantly high levels,” she explained. Later, she mentioned elevated CRP levels, indicating substantial inflammation. “So, I consulted a preventive physician who conducted several scans. During the heart scan, a spot in my lung was identified.”
