Scott Maslen has given insight into why Jack Branning might end up sprawled on the floor of the Queen Vic this Christmas.

EastEnders enthusiasts have been eagerly speculating about who might meet their demise on the festive day ever since the intriguing flashforward episode aired back in February. Initially, considering Jack as a potential victim might have seemed far-fetched, but with the tumult in his marriage following two affairs, his final Christmas could be on the cards this year.

Recent episodes showcased Jack engaging in a passionate night with Stacey Slater, months after his marriage took a hit when Denise Fox betrayed him with Ravi Gulati. EastEnders has officially named Stacey, Denise, Sharon Watts, Kathy Cotton, Linda Carter, and Suki Panesar as potential culprits.

Meanwhile, Jack, Ravi, Phil Mitchell, Rocky Cotton, Dean Wicks, Keanu Taylor, and Nish Panesar are the seven individuals suspected of being the victims. However, Scott, speaking to the Mirror, hinted that viewers should anticipate the unexpected when it comes to Jack’s fate.

“He mentioned, ‘I often hear actors say, ‘My character wouldn’t do that,’ and my response is usually, ‘Well, longevity in this field requires your character to traverse various paths, so be prepared and embrace the journey—it’s enjoyable.'”

“Could Jack shock viewers and take a sinister turn, potentially becoming a killer? The detective certainly has ample motives for wanting Ravi out of the picture.”

“Scott hinted at Jack’s potential inclination to revert to his previous misconduct. He remarked, ‘When I began, Jack had a mischievous side; it takes one to catch one. Over time in this role, the narrative has steered me towards recognising my past errors. That’s the beauty of a show like this—you evolve alongside your character. EastEnders is returning to its roots, captivating different generations.'”

“For Jack, there’s the reconnection with Denise and the arrival of the new baby. Plus, we have the dynamic with the Fox/Slater/Branning family, which widens the scope. The essence of it is, the canvas is wide open for character development.”

He also hinted at the potential involvement of his character in the aftermath of the Christmas Day murder, teasing the complexity of his role and the intriguing narrative possibilities.
