Strictly Come Dancing adjudicator Craig Revel Horwood has responded to a viewer’s accusation that he deliberately marked down Layton Williams in preference to Angela Rippon.

Horwood faced a chorus of boos on Saturday (November 11) after being the sole judge not awarding the Bad Education star a perfect 10. Consequently, Layton, alongside Nikita Kuzmin, secured a total of 39 points from the panel, placing them at the leaderboard’s summit.

His scoring wasn’t only unpopular with the in-studio audience of the BBC dancing programme; many home viewers also perceived his decision to opt for a nine paddle as unjust. One dissatisfied viewer, identified as Stan on Twitter, expressed his disappointment, stating: “Granting 10 points recently to Angela Rippon but only a nine to the absolutely outstanding performance from the men on Saturday night was bitterly disappointing and said so much about your character. It spoke volumes about you, sir, and was a sad reflection of your own ineptitude.

Nevertheless, this assertion proved incorrect, as Craig had also bestowed a nine upon broadcaster Angela Rippon during the same broadcast. Angela and her partner Kai Widdrington expressed considerable satisfaction with the score.

However, after the show concluded, Craig promptly challenged the viewer, reaffirming his initial statement. In response to the initial post, Horwood retorted, “It was indeed a nine for Angela R.”

“Verify your facts before going public, kind sir,” Craig admonished, concluding his response with finesse by expressing, “Thank you for tuning in.”

The tense moments unfolded as Angela and Kai found themselves in the bottom two, competing against journalist and newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy and his partner Lauren Oakley. After a closely contested dance-off, Angela and Kai secured three out of four votes, securing their place in the competition.

Among the three judges supporting Angela’s continuation were Craig, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton du Beke. Notably, head judge Shirley Ballas would have cast the deciding vote in Krishnan’s favor if there had been a tie.

Strictly Come Dancing airs every Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
