Kate Garraway devastated over Derek Draper’s condition in latest update following heart attack

Kate Garraway is reportedly feeling deeply saddened as she remains by her husband Derek Draper's side in the hospital, while her family comes together to support each other during this challenging time.

Earlier this month, news emerged about Derek, a former lobbyist aged 56, facing a severe ‘heart attack’ and currently battling for his life.

Kate, a prominent personality on Good Morning Britain at 56, has taken an indefinite break from the ITV show. Her colleagues have rallied around her, expressing heartfelt support during her absence.

Since Derek fell seriously ill in March 2020 due to Covid-19, the nation has been deeply concerned about the TV star’s husband and their family. He endured an extensive 13-month hospitalization, slipping into a coma, and grappling with various health complications stemming from the virus, including liver damage and kidney failure.

In a recent update, it’s been described as an ‘agonising’ period for Kate as she remains steadfastly by her husband’s side.

“Kate and Derek have been going through an incredibly tough period,” a source shared with The Sun.

“Regrettably, Derek’s condition hasn’t shown much improvement.

“The children are fully aware of what’s happening and have been spending as much time as they can by their father’s side.

“The entire family is coming together, trying to support each other and remain resilient. Particularly during the festive season, this situation is especially distressing.”

Kate and Derek are parents to two children, Darcey, aged 17, and Billy, aged 14. They’ve been married since 2005. Reports indicated that the GMB presenter was working to help her children understand the reality of a family Christmas considering Derek’s condition in hospital.

Following the news of Derek’s hospitalisation, Charlotte Hawkins, a fellow broadcaster on ITV, addressed the matter on the programme, stating, “We wanted to start with an update. You have seen that Derek, Kate’s husband, is sadly very poorly at the moment. We want to let Derek, Kate and the whole family know we are thinking of them, and that we’re sending them our very best wishes.”

Her co-anchor, Richard Madeley, added, “It is a very difficult time.”

Previously, in a statement given to The Sun, Kate’s spokesperson confirmed that Derek had ‘been taken very seriously ill’.

News Prime has reached out to Kate’s representatives for comment.
