In an interview with The Gamer, Neil Newbon, the voice behind the much-loved Astarion, expressed his gratitude towards the community’s overwhelming support, describing it as “amazing, humbling, and somewhat unexpected, but greatly cherished.”

He further mentioned, “It’s truly heartening to have numerous trans men approach me, not just in relation to Astarion, but also regarding Heisenberg from Resident Evil Village.”

Newbon added, “I’m genuinely moved by this interaction and feel deeply honoured. I’ve had several young individuals share with me how much comfort these characters bring, and that holds significant value for them.”

Continuously advocate the notion: you have the freedom to love whom you choose, that should not pose a concern, and no one ought to pass judgement on you for it.

Strengthening his backing for the LGBTQ community, Newbon affirmed, “What resonates with me about Astarion is his pansexuality… he’s drawn to whoever captivates him and loves those whom he forms an affection for.

“I find this message incredibly uplifting, particularly in today’s time of significant progress within the LGBTQ+ community.”

“It remains crucial to continually promote the idea that loving who you choose shouldn’t face scrutiny or judgment. Newbon actively supports the LGBTQ+ community, extending his advocacy to asexual and aromantic individuals often overlooked in such conversations.

He made a point to reassure players: ‘Romantic pursuits aren’t obligatory; you can be [Astarion’s] close friend without romantic involvement.’

Normalising these aspects in gaming, media, cinema, and TV signifies societal evolution towards embracing individual life choices, supporting and accepting everyone.

Fans rightly hailed the RPG as the ‘most inclusive game’ primarily due to the cast’s unwavering support, including transgender YouTube star Abigail Thorn. Larian Studios garnered praise for their efforts in providing trans-inclusive options in character customisation.

Baldur’s Gate 3 boldly challenges gender norms by offering four ‘body types’ instead of traditional binary gender choices. Moreover, the game offers extensive character customisation, including varied genitals, pubic hair styles, and pronoun options.

Despite the game’s considerable success, some right-wing gamers oppose its LGBTQ+ references, resorting to a homophobic and transphobic mod that eliminates all queer elements from the game.
