

Armed Police Respond to Incident on Lewisham High Street
Armed Metropolitan Police officers were called to Lewisham High Street following reports of a disturbance, after a man was seen waving a knife from a window.
Images circulating on social media show a man in a dressing gown brandishing the weapon on Monday morning.

Police arrived at the scene at 10:45am and are currently engaging with the man. Officers are also working to determine whether anyone else is inside the flat.

A passer-by, Callum Fahim, told the BBC he witnessed a man leaning out of a third-floor window, waving a large knife.
“There are two armed police officers with their guns aimed at him, and they’ve been like that for a long time now,” he said.
“I can’t see any signs of negotiations or anything happening. There are fire engines, police, and ambulances at the scene.”
He added: “And now, some police horses have arrived as well.”

A staff member at Lewisham Food and Wine, located near the cordon, expressed frustration, saying:
“It’s ruined business. The road has been closed all day. I don’t know what’s happening, but the cordon has been up since this morning.”

“I don’t know what’s happening. I came to do my shopping and then I saw this. It’s pretty shocking.”
